  • Sue's MEMORABLE DISC GOLF MOMENT
Winning Am Worlds in 1997 was a thrill, and touring the country as a part of the WinniCrew in 2000 was an experience that I'll never forget. Five people, two dogs and a cat in one Winnie!
    Sue's Disc Golf Tips
I see a lot of players trying to throw too hard. Slow down and concentrate on keeping your arm level across your body. Don't focus so much on getting maximum distance... that will come with time. Accuracy and solid putting are the keys to winning disc golf.

Practice putting. I like to go out in my yard and practice my putting skills before I go to the course, and there are a lot of courses that have a practice basket by the first hole too. I start out close to the basket and gradually move back. I think it gives me some confidence to make the short ones. I try to practice all of my putting shots; turnovers, hyzers, turbos, sidearms. I use all of the same kind of putters that are in my bag, Magnets.

Practice driving in a field. I think that field practice is a great way to compare your discs. I like to unload my bag in a field so I can see the difference in the flights. Try to throw all your drivers with the same form to see the different things they do, and notice what they do both into the wind and with the wind. I see a lot of people throw the same disc in every condition, but if you throw a less stable disc in a tailwind you will get a lot more distance.
    COURSES YOU SHOULD PLAY:
    Sue Stephens / Team Discraft

That same year she founded a women's disc golf league called The Chain Smokin Chicks in Grand Rapids, which still thrives to this day. Sue currently serves as Club Secretary for the Grand Rapids Dogs of Disc club.

The first place I traveled to for a tournament. The course is beautiful with a variety of shots.

    Two beautiful and challenging courses.

    Private and sweet.

In The Disc Golf Bag: Drivers
    Disc Comments
    ESP Surge
    (166 gm)
This disc is my primary driver. I trust this disc for any condition. I like the feel of the ESP plastic.
    FLX Surge
    (169 gm)
I'm getting more distance with this than my ESP Surge. This FLX version turns over a little for me so I don't use it in a headwind, but with no wind or a tailwind this disc goes farther than any other driver.
    ESP Predator
    (170 gm)
This disc is overstable and gets a lot of skip at the end. I like it for tricky hyzer shots.
    ESP Pulse
    (166 gm)
This disc is less stable than my Surge it gets great distance and doesn't get a lot of skip hyzer at the end. I can turn this disc over.
    ESP Crush
    (170 gm)
This disc is stable, it gets great distance even when thrown on a hyzer the whole way. I use this driver for headwind shots.
    Z Spectra
    (168 gm)
This disc is my max distance driver when it isn't windy. It is a little understable, but it comes back at the end.
    X Wildcat
    (168 gm)
This disc is my roller. It is also a great long distance hard turnover, and I have also learned it works great for straight uphill shots.
    Z Flick
    (168 gm)
This disc is very overstable and gets a lot of skip at the end. I like it for tricky hyzer shots.
In The Disc Golf Bag: Midrange
    Disc Comments
    ESP Buzzz
    (169 gm)
This is my straight flying midrange driver from 80 - 200 feet. The Buzzz flies flat and lands flat. It is very reliable.
    Z Buzzz
    (169 gm)
This is my overstable midrange driver from 80 - 200 feet. I even trust this disc in the wind.
    Z Breeze
    (163 gm)
The Breeze will hold a turnover or works for flat shots. It gets great glide and is one of my favorite discs. I like to use this disc for sidearm upshots also.
In The Disc Golf Bag: Putt and Approach
    Disc Comments
    D Magnet
    (170 g)
I have two white Magnets in my bag: the primary one is less stable and I use it for most of my putting. The second one is more stable and is used for longer putting and hyzer putts.
