  • MEMORABLE DISC GOLF MOMENTs:
With a lot of joy being back in Europe after my down under trip, finishing 8th at the European Championship and winning the French Open in my 4th start of the year. Disc golf is great!
Winning the 2008 Perth Open in Australia where I also got to know a lot of great guys. I gave them some thoughts about European disc golf and they are doing a great job building a strong club and will arrange a much bigger Perth Open with price money as first tournament in Australia. Good on you my friends…
Even if I in 2007 missed the top three in SDGO (Stockholm) it was almost unbelievable to be in the lead after the second round shooting better then Jesper Lundmark, Dave Feldberg, Markus Källström and Avery Jenkins. My lead ended after the third round but I went to the final where I gave Avery a tough fight over 3rd place. With a crowd of 300 people it was magic to place my disc five feet from the basket on the island hole.
The 2006 season was great after winning Lipton Dutch Open and Swiss Open two week later, shooting course records in two of three rounds. Then finishing 2nd in Easter Open, Belgium and in the British Open. I also took two 5th places and two 6th places.
After a tough year in 2004, coming back and winning the British Open with two throw margin after a hard battle with Tommi Vesala.
Winning the Danish Open 2003. With a lot of adrenaline pumping I made a 13 feet putt from behind a branch in play off for the victory. This was my first victory and I can tell you, it was a good feeling.
    Emil's Disc Golf Tips
    Start With A Midrange:
Too many players choose to play with a driver as their first and only disc. My first disc was a midrange and I learned how to control this before I bought a driver. I still today have my best accuracy with my midrange. So if you want to learn how to master the game, buy a putter or midrange and have fun when throwing them. If you want faster development I suggest that you take two or three lessons with your local course pro. This will give you many new thoughts and ideas and certainly a better game.

    Work On Your Timing:
I think one of the reason why beginners can't add much distance to their drive is the timing. You really need to learn how all things connect in your body when you make that long drive. It's not always a lot of power that make your long drive, you will need that your leg and hip is faster then your back, shoulder and arm. A great help for me has been to stand in front of a mirror and in slow motion make the throw. Here can I see all the parts in my throw. You can also use a friend when practice and help each other when throwing and look on those things I mentioned.

    Key To Precision:
A lot of players are amazed at my accurate throw and the great precision in my putts. When they ask how I'm doing it I answer that practice is the key. I have worked thousands of hours to reach this level. If you don't have that time and want a fast development I suggest that you take lessons with your local course pro or begin in a disc golf class. This will give you many new thoughts and ideas and certainly a better game faster.

    Better Health:
As a Personal Trainer I see a lot of people who don't take care of their own health. As a disc golfer who wants to perform at your best, you need to work on both your mental and physical health. I will give you a few trick how to improve these things.

First of all you need to have a regular intake of food during both practice and tournament. Make sure you eat at least 5 times every day, starting every morning with a nice breakfast. A perfect meal is 2 cups (dry) oatmeal and a boiled egg.

You also need a great balance in your body and know where your arm and legs are when doing the run up on tee. To improve your balance you need strong abdominal muscles. One easy exercise is the bridge where you are standing on your elbow and toes. Then you have to lift up all your body and keep this position for 30-90 seconds. Do this 3 times a week. If you can deal with these two tips, you're a long way to become a better player.

In The Disc Golf Bag: Drivers
    Disc Comments
    X Avenger
    (170-174)
The Avenger lies perfect in my hand with its soft shapes. I use it for all my backhand tailwind and moderate headwind shots from 300 feet and up. The slower character suites me great because I appreciate control before speed. I'm always carrying one light and two heavy Avengers in my bag. This disc has improved my drives during 2006 which gave me a third place on the PDGA EuroTour.
    Z Avenger
    (173-174)
I like to use the same driver, so the Z Avenger complements my X Avenger because it's more reliable in moderate to hard headwind. I will not get the same soft glide with this disc but that's not the purpose of this disc.
    ESP Force
    (max weight)
I've started to use the Force after receiving them down to Australia last year. I use the Force when I need a little more distance then the Avenger will give me. This year I will throw more with my Force to be steady on distances over 450 feet.
    Z Flick
    (max weight)
The Flick has helped to improve my sidearm a lot. This is my disc for big hyzer, really hard headwind and forehand shots. The reason is the thin rime and the constant reliability even if worn. I can throw a controlled forehand shot around 300 feet with good accuracy so this will stay in my bag.
    ESP Avenger SS
    (max weight)
When there is a lot of tailwind or a going uphill on a hole I use my Avenger SS. I've got almost the same grip as in my other Avenger so sometimes this disc helps me.
In The Disc Golf Bag: Midrange
    Disc Comments
    X MRV
    (173-174)
The favorite among my discs is the MRV, which has been discontinued in favour of the more popular Buzzz. I have used the X-MRV since 2001 when I started to compete. Even thought my throwing technique has changed since then, it still suites me and the MRV has created most birdies and success in my game. I use the X plastic for anhyzer and straight shots up to moderate wind.
    Z MRV
    (173 - 174)
When it's more wind and I need a overstable flight, I use my Z-MRV instead of the X-MRV. This disc is perfect for me and I use most of the discs in my bag.
    Z Wasp
    (177-180)
You can really rely on this disc. This is a perfect midrange disc for straight shots in hard headwind and when you need a smooth hyzer shot. The Wasp is tough to use for beginners, but after throwing some years this can be a great help in your game.
In The Disc Golf Bag: Putt and Approach
    Disc Comments
    X Challenger
    (173 - 174)
The Challenger is a perfect disc for approach and drives up to 230 feet. The stability and the smooth shape suites me perfectly. You can trust that the Challenger will fly the way you want. I'm carrying one worn and one new when competing.
    D Magnet
    (150 class)
After a thought to play Japan Open, I ordered some 150 Magnets as my approach and putter. I never went to Japan but I found a great disc for my game. I'm now using the Magnet 150 class as my first putter and the APX is my second. With the Magnet my approach game has improved so much and my putts are straighter the ever before. You might think this is a very understable disc but it's not. I have got a new lift in my putts and I made a 83 feet putt at the European Championship with this disc.
    X APX
    (173 - 174)
APX was been my main putter since 2004. The great grip in the plastic was the reason for me to change from X to the Swirl-APX. The straight flight and the lower profile is perfect for me. I will always love this disc.
