Team Discraft's Larry Bledsoe

Larry Bledsoe / Team Discraft NAME: Larry Bledsoe
TEAM: Masters
HOMETOWN: Bowling Green, KY
PDGA #: 12201
2012 PDGA RATING: 982
BORN: 1969
STARTED IN DISC GOLF: 1995
ROAD WARRIOR: Larry shoots at approximately 20 disc golf events per year, and is always a threat to any player with enough skill to make it onto the lead card.
MEMORABLE DISC GOLF MOMENT:
Throwing in a 175+ foot shot for birdie on the last hole of the final nine at the 2001 Brent Hambrick Memorial to end up tying Ken Climo for 3rd place.
Larry's Disc Golf Tips
- Mental Toughness: Try not to let one little bad kick or spit out putt control the rest of your round. The best thing you can do is take the stroke and move on to the next hole and not worry about the past.

- Accuracy vs Distance: I see a lot of new players just trying to throw far, but spending little time working on accuracy. Your game will improve much faster if you focus your practice on accuracy, and the distance will come naturally.

- Get Off The Beach: Most new players have some experience with catch discs like you'd find on the beach. As a result, they often will try to use the same swooping air bounce throw, which doesn't work so well with golf discs. Instead, pull your golf discs nice and flat across your chest. If you're having trouble, be sure to start out with an understable disc, or even a putter.

- Throwing in the Rain: I find it helpful to have a birdie bag handy as well as throw the new flx plastic as I find it very grippy in wet conditions.

- To Throw Straight: I find it easier to change my starting stance from standing facing the target to having my right shoulder pointing to the target. This makes me not have so much movement and have more control. While this will take some distance away it does allow for better control for shorter straight shots.

- Avoid big scores: When I play a long or difficulty hole I look to take a par regardless of what everyone else can do. If I can only deuce a given hold 25 percent of the time -- and that is with really good shots -- then I'll play the hole more conservatively and just make sure to get my par. I do this by not going for so much on the drive or upshot and try to remove any bogey risks.

- Forehand skills: To improve your control of a forehand I recommend using a mid range disc. Once you are able to make it do what you want you will find your control with a driver will improve as well.

Course Comments
Somerset Top
Somerset, KY
Love the top course here as it demands some great accuracy shots or you are 300-400 feet in the wrong direction.
Cedar Hill
Nashville, TN
Great course which requires accuracy and distance. Can challenge all skill levels, especially pros.
Hoover Dam (BHM)
Columbus, OH
Love the original here as you get to throw just about every shot in your arsenal with great scenery.
Mt. Airy
Cincinnati, OH
Championship course requiring patients with accuracy and length. Love the rolling hills with danger on both sides.
Kereiakes
Bowling Green, KY
Long pads are just fun to play with all the big disc catching trees.

Disc Comments
ESP NUKE
(168 gm)
This disc will go further than any other disc in my bag. I am finding it to be fairly stable so will love to see how it does with some seasoning.
ESP Force
(172+)
I love this disc. It is fast and will get there when you throw it. I carry two of these: one that is real stable and one that I can force over for greater distance.
Z Stalker
(171+)
I've been using Stalker for a lot of midrange shots. I use it when I need more distance and don't have to worry about it turning over and going where I don't want it to go.
ESP Surge
(172+)
The Surge is a huge favorite of mine. This disc really carries, giving me more distance than any other disc, plus I can rip it hard and not worry about it turning over. It flies really well low to the ground so is great for low shots too.
ESP Surge SS
(171+)
Surge SS has become my go to driver for controlled fade shots. It works real good for those shots that require you to throw a little hyzer and have it flip over slowly and continue on down the fairway. Would say this is my number one woods driver since I can keep it on a straighter line longer than any other disc in my bag.
ESP Avenger SS
(171+)
This is my go to roller disc. I can throw it out with a little turn over line and when it hits the ground it likes to roll and roll. The main reason I love it is that it seems to fight the urge to just flip over and holds its straight up and down roll longer than any other disc I have thrown.

Disc Comments
Z Buzzz
(173+)
This is the #1 disc in my bag, and was responsible for getting me hooked on Discraft plastic. I use it more than anything besides the putter. I just love it. The Buzzz has better glide and just a bit more speed than other mids. Very easy to control, highly reliable. You may be surprised how well it holds in windy conditions too.
ESP Buzzz
(173+)
I really like the way the ESP plastic feels. This version does seem a little faster but slightly less stable.
ESP Comet
(173+)
This is has become my go to midrange for turnover holes. I use this disc a lot, especially in the woods.
Glide
(173+)
This is my midrange turnover disc. I find the Glide easy to turn yet it doesn't want to turn over into the ground. It works well for those shots that require a nice medium turn with little deviation.

Disc Comments
X Soft Challenger
(173+)
My putter of choice. I like the way it feels in my hand when putting. It is good to use for medium drives or up shots as well as it holds a real nice line. I would say it is a medium stable disc as it won't turn over till after you have beat it up a bit.
ESP Zone
(172+)
This will become my #1 long approach disc due to the great feel and stability of this disc.
ESP Ringer
(171+)
Ringer comes out for short holes. It is easy to control and will hold a straight line till the very end of its flight. Once beat in it works great for those short holes that require a nice fade. This disc I can throw hard and due to the slow speed not have to worry about over throwing the hole.
FLX Challenger
(173+)
Love this disc off the tee for shorter holes of distances of 175-275 feet that require straight to moderate stability. This disc has the stability to hold a line with power and not flip over.
